SIMUL8 - Process Simulation for Lean and Six Sigma: training course
Why use SIMUL8?
SIMUL8 reports many performance measures important to Six Sigma as standard including throughput, cycle-time, inventory, operational cost and operational profit. With minimal experience non-standard measures such as waiting and working times, cost of non-conformance, and percentage-value-add can be added to a SIMUL8 simulation.Process simulation lets you capture and display the inner workings of your operations no matter how complicated the system. It is similar to process mapping in that it provides the visualisation often required to understand processes. Simulation, however, contributes another valuable dimension by being able to demonstrate the effects of modifications to the system dynamically. This is particularly useful in those cases where a process has many decision variables such as product types, routings, resources, shift-patterns, task times, or rework. See case studies ...
Course Outline:
Our intensive 3-day introduction to process modelling for Lean and Six Sigma starts with the basics of SIMUL8 but quickly moves on to cover routing and timing, batching and assembling of work items, shift work, defining key properties of work items to allow product-specific routing and timing, and the use of distributions to incorporate variability into process cycle times. We will show you how to use SIMUL8 for value stream mapping and DFSS as well as demonstrating how the software relates to the different phases of DMAIC. Time will also be spent exploring aspects of SIMUL8's internal programming language, Visual Logic. There will be opportunities to discuss your own particular issues with the trainer. Some of the content can be modified to suit your company requirements in discussion with one or more of your Master Black Belts.
